The film is a sequel to Troell’s 1971 film The Emigrants\, and both are based on The Emigrants novels by Vilhelm Moberg. Drawing its story from the last two novels\, The Settlers and The Last Letter Home\, the film is about the Swedish immigrants establishing their home in Minnesota\, during the Dakota War of 1862. \nThe film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. DESCRIPTION:Jay Walker will lead a workshop where he will work through his process and give each student the ability to explore the possibilities of using tape as an art medium. Students will be playing and drawing with tape and creating their own tape piece that can be used for street art. Learn how to create a version of Jay’s Plaid Shirt Project\, using adhesive vinyl and tape\, to make a tape art piece that is a giant sticker\, that can stick to walls or glass. All supplies included; open to participants 14 and older. $45 (members) / $50 (future members) \nAbout Jay Walker and his Plaid Shirt Project: \nWalker is a multi-disciplinary artist creating tape installations\, mixed media painting/drawings\, and carved sculptures. Jay has created tape art Plaid Shirts and stuck them in cities around the globe.

DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, June 17\, the City of Ormond Beach will be hosting a FREE kids catch and release fishing tournament\, REEL in the FUN\, at the Neptune Avenue beach approach. \nPrior registration is required to participate in the tournament which is limited to Ormond Beach residents.  Please register by Wednesday\, June 14.  Each team will consist of one (1) adult and up to two (2) children.  Children must be ages 4-12 years old.  Prizes and awards will be given. \nRegistration will take place at the Leisure Services Registration Office\, 399 N. SUMMARY:Tape Art 2017
DESCRIPTION:What do artists from France\, Iran\, Brazil\, Sweden\, the Ukraine\, England and the US have in common with a roll of tape? \n\n\nThey use it as a medium to create vibrant and creative artwork that will be displayed in “Tape Art 2017” this summer at the Ormond Memorial Art Museum!  The unique exhibition will open this Friday\,  June 16 and run through Sept. 17. \n\n\nArtist\, Jay Walker\,will be on hand at a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday\, June 16 to discuss an original tape mural he will install inside the museum.  Melissa Lesher will also discuss her process of tape sculpture. \n\n\nAll of the artwork including two dimensional images of landscapes\, portraits\, abstracts\, text and sculptural pieces will be created with some form of the adhesive. \n\nEngland’s Benjamin Murphy\, Mark Khaisman of the Ukraine and Philadelphia’s Jay Walker all participated in the “Tape Art Convention 2016” in Berlin and widely considered the first international collaborative showing of artist’s working in tape.\n\nThree of Murphy’s meticulously crafted electrical tape pieces will be on display at OMAM along with three of Khaisman’s unique works made using emulsion transfer on aluminum tape. \n\n\nTape art has its roots as a form of urban street art and is popular in Europe.  It can be similar to graffiti but less permanent (and less illegal!).  As with much installation art\, the tape work created outside on walls\, windows and even cars is created to deteriorate over its lifespan and eventually disappear. \n\n\nThe tape art show is sponsored by the Coral Sands Inn\, Daytona Jeep Rental and the Ormond Brewing Co. \n\nThe museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and noon to 4 p.m. on the weekend.  The surrounding gardens featuring sculptural tributes to veterans are open each day until dusk. Admission is free but a $2 donation is requested.

DESCRIPTION:Our community heroes will return today for Ormond Beach Regional Library’s Children’s Annual Safety Day.  They will meet and greet the kids\, and discuss and answer questions having to do with safety.  Child safety kits will be assembled for kids from birth to 18 years old.  (A parent or guardian is needed to sign permission.)  Our special guests are from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office\, the Ormond Beach Fire Department\, Emergency Management\, and Rangers from Tomoka Park.  The event is free.
