SUMMARY:115 Years of Racing
DESCRIPTION:“115 Years of Racing” an exhibition at the MacDonald House Museum and Welcome Center \nOrmond Beach is the Birthplace of Speed!  115 years ago\, on March 26\, 1903 people gathered here on the beach for the sole purpose of competing and viewing a meet that contained only two pure racing cars. The first annual Ormond-Daytona Beach Automobile Races were held just south of what is now the Granada Boulevard beach ramp.  A one-mile course was laid out headed south\, and the meet began with the first official automobile racing event ever held on the beach. \nThe Ormond Beach Historical Society is honored to preserve and present this legacy in a temporary exhibit highlighting the activities of the “1st Speed Week.”  The exhibit includes black and white photographs and artifacts from the first race(s). \nVisitor Information: \nAdmission: Free and open to the public. \nMuseum Hours: Tuesday–Saturday\, 10:00-3:00 pm. \nThis exhibition was made possible through support from: The County of Volusia\, The State of Florida\, Dan Smith and Diana Simmons
