DESCRIPTION:Saturate your senses in the sights\, sounds and tastes of Celtic heritage when the Ormond Beach Celtic Festival returns to Rockefeller Gardens with folk music\, food and fun from the seven Celtic Nations and beyond. Arriving this year on April 21 & 22\, 2018\, this eight-year old festival occupies two downtown parks along the Halifax River and fills them with 5 music stages\, a Highland Games\, clans and Celtic societies from throughout the region as well as a host of other activities. Voted the Best Local Event in the 2017 News-Journal’s Readers Choice poll\, the weekend attracts more than 8\,000 locals and visitors each year. Admission is $10 each day for adults. Children 12 and under are admitted free. Charles J “Chic” Schoerne and James “J.J.” Jones \, a former Army missile technician\, will be on hand for the talks starting at 11 a.m. beneath a tent in the museum’s parking lot\, just south of the gardens.\n\nAfter the ceremony\, guests will be invited inside the museum for light refreshments provided by the Pilot Club of Daytona Beach. Entertainment will be provided by the Bethune-Cookman University tuba and euphonium ensemble. Parking will be available in lots at St. James Episcopal Church and the Casements.

DESCRIPTION:An estimated 1\,000 men\, women and children will gather at Rockefeller Gardens on Monday\, May 29th\, in loving memory of those whose supreme sacrifice protected  privileges we still enjoy as a nation. \nWeeks of preparation by the volunteer Remembrance Committee each year has made this an increasingly popular and widely respected event. \nSymbols of liberty will overflow into every corner of the plaza as numerous military color guards and color corps enter and assume their positions at the center of activities. Additional groups\, including Boy and Girl Scouts will join them. \nGuest speaker for the 2017 event is Captain Randall J. Lynch\, U.S. Navy (Retired).  He retired in July 2016 after 28 years of dedicated service and is married to the former Terri E. Worley of El Centro\, California.  Captain Lynch and his wife Terri live in Daytona Beach with their two sons Joshua and Luke. \nCaptain Lynch’s personal decorations include the Legion of Merit (2)\, Defense Meritorious Service Medal\, Meritorious Service Medal (3)\, Air Medal (12 S/F)\, Joint Service Commendation Medal\, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3)\, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3)\, as well as various campaign medals and unit citations.  During his career\, he has accumulated over 3\,200 flight hours in various Naval aircraft\, including over 700 hours in combat and over 400 carrier arrested landings. \nUpon arrival to Rockefeller Gardens\, guests will have been given a carnation.  Final tribute is rendered as they move forward in procession\, to place their flower beside the memorial flame as a personal “thank you” to those who gave their all. \nFor additional info\, you may call Leisure Services at 386-676-3241.

DESCRIPTION:There’s no place better to celebrate our nation’s 240 years of freedom than beside the beautiful Halifax River in Ormond Beach. And\, of course\, its free. \nEntertainment will stretch from City Hall Plaza across the Granada Bridge to Rockefeller Gardens.  Bands will be playing on both ends of the bridge from 7 pm – 9:15 pm. \nKids’ activities will be in Rockefeller Gardens (North Lawn) from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Kids’ activities include a rock climbing wall\, a moon walk\, an obstacle course\, a giant slide\, and more! New this year\, there will be a photo booth! Other entertainment includes a juggler\, a magician\, balloon twisting\, a stilt walker\, and of course\, special appearances by Abe Lincoln and Ben Franklin! \nThe finale of this celebration will consist of one of the area’s best fireworks displays! The fireworks begin promptly at 9:30 p.m. on the Halifax River just south of the Granada Bridge. This is the 18th year the event has been held on the corners of the Granada Bridge and it now attracts visitors from other states. \nFor 40 years\, Santore has provided the anxiously awaited fireworks show in Ormond Beach exciting all the spectators and reminding us of the history we are celebrating on the fourth of July. \nFree shuttle service will be available from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. to assist guests in getting back and forth across the Granada Bridge.  For more shuttle bus and parking information visit the City’s website. \nFor more information\, please contact Community Events at 676-3241.

DESCRIPTION:Closing out April and opening May\, is Art in the Park – the last arts and crafts fair of the spring before the dog days of summer set in.  More than 100 exhibitors participate in this show annually.  Entering its 44th year in 2016\, Art in the Park is hosted by the City of Ormond Beach Department of Leisure Services in partnership with the Ormond Memorial Art Museum. SUMMARY:National Poetry Month Festival
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, April 24\, from 1 to 4:30 p.m.\, Creative Happiness Institute will hold its annual National Poetry Month Festival. The event\, held in the Gallery of The Casements in Ormond Beach\, will feature forty poets and singers/songwriters and an open mic for audience members to read poems of their own. \nGroups sending their poets include The Tomoka Poets\, Live Poets\, Florida State Poets Association\, MainStreet Art and Culture Slam\, Daytona State College\, and Deltona High School. Musical entertainment will include Lana Chapel\, Lady Love Rebel (Bodil Haheim)\, Elliot Kane\, Roger Duvernoy\, and a special satiric song medley by Robert Blenheim. \nSister Cities of Volusia County will provide free light refreshments\, and snacks and beverages will also be for sale. The event is made possible by Ormond Beach MainStreet\, the Ormond Beach Arts District and by funding in part from a grant by the Cultural Council of Volusia County\, and is open to the public free of charge. There will be a door prize\, raffles for literary prizes\, and CDs and books for sale by featured performers.
