Join us January 14th to the 22nd for Ormond Beach’s newest event –

Ormond Beach MainStreet, the Ormond Beach Arts District and the Florida Women’s Arts Association have a new way for you to experience art – right where you eat, shop and do business. Inspired by The Art Prize in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the new Ocean Air Art Prize will bring the work of more than 20 Florida artists into the stores and offices of downtown Ormond Beach.

This juried show is the first of what the partner organizations hope will be an annual event. Paintings, photos and sculpture will be available for viewing from January 14 through January 22. Prizes will be awarded both by the jury and by the public, who can vote for their favorite pieces either digitally or at the MainStreet office for their favorite pieces.

“The idea for this kind of art event was brought to us by Joan Baliker, who is a noted, local sculptor,” said Marianne Verna, President of the Florida Women’s Arts Association. “Joan has participated in The Art Prize in Grand Rapids and loved the excitement it creates there. Though we couldn’t attempt the size and scope of the Michigan event right off the bat, we thought it would still be a great thing for our downtown community. Ormond Beach MainStreet and the Ormond Beach Arts District seemed to be the perfect partners.  Happily, Fields BMW-Volvo-VW & Mini of Daytona Beach stepped up to be our presenting sponsor.”

The art will be found in 20 venues along Granada Boulevard between US 1 and A1A. Ocean Air Art Prize venue map  Printed versions will be available in every venue.  You can cast your vote online here. More than 80 pieces were submitted for the event. Thirty-five were selected by a jury composed of artists and curators from outside the area. Both the jury prizes and those selected by the public will be presented at a gala event on January 25 at the new Arts on Granada Gallery.
