DESCRIPTION:Dr. Jason Aufdenberg will share information about the upcoming solar eclipse on Monday\, Aug. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Ormond Beach Regional Library\, 30 S. Beach St. \nDr. Aufdenberg\, an associate professor of physics and astronomy at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University\, will provide a simulation of the eclipse and offer tips on observing it safely. He will explain why solar eclipses happen; discuss historical and upcoming eclipses; and share highlights of what scientists have learned about the sun\, Earth and laws of nature from solar eclipses. \nA Q-and-A session will follow the presentation. Free solar-safe eclipse glasses will be distributed while supplies last. \nDuring the solar eclipse\, which will occur Aug. 21\, the moon will pass between the sun and Earth and block all or part of the sun. According to NASA\, everyone in North America will be able to see at least a partial eclipse in which the moon covers part of the sun. Those in the path of totality – a 70-mile-wide band that extends from Lincoln Beach\, Oregon\, to Charleston\, South Carolina – will be treated to a total eclipse in which the moon blocks the entire sun. \nThe total phase of the solar eclipse will not be visible in Florida. In Daytona Beach\, the partial solar eclipse will begin at 1:19 p.m.\, reach its peak at 2:50 p.m.\, and end at 4:14 p.m. \nDr. Aufdenberg’s programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Library. We will have our adoption trailer onsite featuring several cats and dogs of varying ages and sizes that are waiting to meet their new best friend! We will also be hosting our biggest store wide sale ever and have some amazing raffle items. There will be tons of new and like new merchandise to choose from–everything from designer clothes\, fine jewelry and antique furniture–and of course\, pet supplies like food\, toys\, leashes and flea preventative.

DESCRIPTION:Scenic Historical Bus Tour presented by the Ormond Beach Historical Society. This two hour tour includes the Ormond Scenic Loop\, Fairchild Oak\, Three Chimneys Sugar Mill Ruins\, Ormond Indian Burial Mound and historic homes along the way. A knowledgeable tour guide will interpret the 30 sites on the route. Tickets are $20 for adults\, $7 for ages 7 – 12\, and can be purchased at the OBHS Welcome Center 38 East Granada Blvd. or by phone using Visa or Master Card. Reservations are required as space is limited. Call 386-677-7005 for tickets or more information. Bus tours leave from The Casements parking lot\, 25 Riverside Drive\, at 9:45 am. \n
